Actress Lim Ji-yeon, who had a thirst for historical dramas, chose "Ok's Wife" as her first historical drama since her debut. Will Lim Ji-yeon, who poured her sincerity into it, be able to become a "historical queen" through "Mrs. Ok's Wife Exhibition"?
Director Jin Hyuk and actors Lim Ji-yeon, Choo Young-woo, Kim Jae-won and Yeon-woo attended the production presentation of JTBC's new Saturday-Sunday drama "Ok's Wife Exhibition" (scripted by Park Ji-sook, director Jin Hyuk) at the Sindorim Hotel in Seoul, Guro-gu, Seoul on the afternoon of the 28th.
"Mrs. Ok's Exhibition" is a drama about the fierce survival fraud between Ok Tae-young (Im Ji-yeon), an outsider whose name, status, and husband were fake, and Chun Seung-hwi (Choo Young-woo), an artist who risked his life to protect her.
In the play, Lim Ji-yeon transforms into a runaway slave living as a fake Ok Tae-young and the first talented Joseon man who can't do anything, and Chu Young-woo, who plays Cheon Seung-hwi, an artist who risked his life to protect him, plays the best romanticist in Joseon who throws everything out for love. Yeon-woo plays the role of Cha Mi-ryeong, who wants to resemble Ok Tae-young (Im Ji-yeon), and Kim Jae-won plays the perfect young man and brother-in-law, who always trusts and follows Ok Tae-young.
The actors formed a relationship with the "Okshi Lady Jeon" with a solid script and a focus on the genre of historical drama. Lim Ji-yeon said, "There has been a lot of fear of historical dramas. I think I was qualified because I felt that it was an arduous scene. I've been ruling it out with the thought that I can't do well, but I happened to read the script, and I wanted to show it a little bit. I wanted to show that I can do historical drama well. It was an interesting enough script to have such courage."
Chu Young-woo said, "When I first read the script, it was so fun, and I read it all at once like my mother told me a traditional fairy tale. I fell in love with the script for the first time, and I thought playing two roles was a big challenge. It could have been a little difficult and I felt pressured, but I wanted to try it. At first, I was worried, but the writer wrote the text differently and Lim Ji-yeon told me, but rather than widening the gap, I thought I wanted the two characters to be seen when I was standing, so I focused on that and practiced," he said.
Kim Jae-won said, "I think I was chosen rather than chosen because I was a rookie. I loved the writing when I first got the script. As soon as I read it, I saw it with suction power enough to read it well. And he was a reliable director, Jin-hyuk, and apart from "Mrs. Ok's Wife Exhibition", he tried the genre of historical drama for the first time. Rather than thinking deeply about the genre of historical drama, I thought it was a modern drama with romance in it and the background was only in the Joseon Dynasty, so I took the burden off of historical drama, he added.
Yeon-woo also said, "I've done a lot of work since my debut, but I've never done a historical drama. So I really wanted to do a historical drama, but I was chosen. As I met with the director and the writer and listened to the story, the writer explained the character with tears in his eyes, which touched my heart. I thought I really wanted to try that character," he recalled.
Lim Ji-yeon's performance is one of the expectations for the "Ok's Wife Exhibition." Lim Ji-yeon's passionate performance, which will portray the life of a woman who uses various abilities that she could not see the light of because she is a slave and creates more than real things in a fake life, is drawing attention.
Lim Ji-yeon, who took on the title role through this work, said, "I was scared." "To be honest, I was confident," he said. The script was so good and the scene was so good, so the energy itself and the chemistry with the director were so good. The physical limit came. There were so many things I had to do with my body, but I think I was happy. I think I thought of it as a sense of responsibility and a natural burden for the work. When I said hello for the first time on the day of the entire reading, I said that I would do my best, and that I would show it. I wanted to show you that much and I wanted to do it," he said, expressing confidence.
Director Jin Hyuk, who cast Lim Ji-yeon, thought that Lim Ji-yeon was the only actor who would play "Gudeok" and "Ok Tae-young." He said, "The female protagonist has a large proportion and it is difficult to act. I saw it, and as soon as I saw it, I remembered Lim Ji-yeon. I didn't have a choice because it came like a scene that Lim Ji-yeon should do, and I didn't have a choice," he said, showing infinite trust in Lim Ji-yeon.
Above all, Lim Ji-yeon had a lot of worries in that she drew the process of naturally changing from Gudeok to Ok Tae-young. He said, "I had a lot of worries about how to show the process of change and details. However, the script was detailed, and as I said the lines, I drew the process of changing naturally. Ok Tae-young = It seems that Gudeok was changed, and he just left the process of becoming a wife and being a wife on the spot. As a result, the difference was clearly seen," he explained.
Lim Ji-yeon confessed her qualification for a historical drama on this day. However, I had confidence in my work, and I tried to overcome it with that confidence. He said, "You've done everything you can as a heroine of a historical drama. You can dress up as a man, become a slave, a yangban, a ma'am, an old lady, love, and be betrayed, and there are so many conflicts and many things you do."I thought I did everything I could in a historical drama because I was expressing my difficulty," he said.
"And I wanted to show it without regret, and I wanted to make the opportunity sincere because I was thirsty for historical dramas. There was a burden on the title roll, but I think my greed got bigger as it became that precious," he added.
In a situation where the weekend's small screen is fierce, he also pointed out the charm of "Mrs. Ok's Exhibition." Lim Ji-yeon said, "There are so many fun Saturday dramas. Our drama has our own charms of a completely different genre, and the advantages of historical dramas that you can see after a long time are very rich. "And I'm proud that it's a well-made historical drama with a really artistic painting, a solid story, and enough to see." I think it's a work that makes you curious about the back story the more you see it, because there's emotion and joy in it, and the chemistry of the actors."
Mrs. Ok's Exhibition will premiere on the 30th.
