The musical "Jesus Christ Superstar" (producer Jung Hoe-jin/produced by Blue Stage) will return. Jesus Christ Superstar (hereinafter referred to as Superstar), which proved the existence of a "legend" with cheers from audiences and critics through performances commemorating the 50th anniversary of 2022-2023, is scheduled to open at the BBCH Hall of the Gwanglim Art Center on November 7. For the production, which will follow the 50th anniversary performance, Michaeli, Park Eun-tae, who represents Superstar, and Han Ji-sang, Yoon Hyung-ryul, and Baek Hyung-hoon are cast as Jesus.
Superstar is famous for its difficulty that all actors dream of but not everyone can challenge. Not only should it have an absolute range based on rock sound, but it should also be able to freely use a strong sense of hitting, and it is a musical that is sung-through without lines, so it is well-known for its murderous difficulty that requires delicate control of singing and acting. As such, the best sing-stealers in Korea have been cast in the roles of Jesus and Judah. In this production, actors proven to be applauded by audiences and critics have been re-cast since the 2004 Korean premiere, raising expectations.
Michaeli and Park Eun-tae were cast as Jesus, the leader of the 12 disciples called the Son of God and agonizing over the path of death predicted by God. Michaeli, whose existence itself is evaluated as Jesus, will be on the "superstar" stage for the fourth time after 2013, 2015, and 2022. Following the performances in 2013 and 2015, Park Eun-tae will return as a "superstar" for the first time in 10 years. Park Eun-tae, who first played Jesus in 2013 and expressed his affection for the work, saying, "It's a work I've wanted to do all my life," ended her successful Jesus debut by earning the nickname "Eunjus" from the audience with her overwhelming singing and delicate passion.
Han Ji-sang, Yoon Hyung-ryul and Baek Hyung-hoon played the role of "Yuda," one of Jesus' twelve disciples and worried about the consequences of Jesus' reputation and the poor. Judas Station is famous for its high-level music as it has to express great emotional agitation toward Jesus, such as anguish, anger, and anxiety. Kim Bo-kyung, Jang Eun-ah, and Jeong Yu-ji joined the role of Maria, who meets Jesus and faces a changing life and is the only comfort to him. Kim Bo-kyung, who was praised for the appearance of a new Maria with a clear and clear tone at the 50th anniversary performance, will once again join "Superstar." Jang Eun-ah, who will participate in the fourth Superstar after 2013, 2015, and 2022, will once again renew her life character with deep acting skills. Jung Yu-ji, who has drawn attention for her high-quality passion for each of her works such as "Roses of Versailles," "Notre Dame de Paris," and "Jekyll and Hyde," also joined as a new Maria and is ready to present an appealing Maria.
In addition, Kim Tae-han and Ji Hyun-joon, inseparable from "Superstar," will take the stage as "Villado," the governor-general who is at the center of the Jesus execution case. Again, it will add weight to the play with charisma that no one can imitate, as well as leave an intense aftertaste. Lim Ki-hong, who newly joined "Superstar" as "Herot," a king who laughs at Jesus while enjoying joy, will show an unparalleled madness, and Jeon Jae-hyun, who proved his existence by playing in the last production, will also play the role of Herot once again. Kim Rak-hyun and Kim Baul in the role of Gayaba, who show their presence in confrontation with Jesus, and Kim Eun-chong and Yoon Tae-ho in Simon, one of the twelve disciples who want Jesus to fight against Rome, Kim Min-cheol and Kang Dong-woo in the role of Annas, Kim Young-woo in the role of "Bedro" and Cho Won-seok in the role of "The Priest."
